Novice Driver Collisions are the #1 Cause of Teen Deaths in North America
Driver Inexperience is the number one cause of novice driver collisions. A driver education program or a couple of practice hours is not enough. They will need lots of practice and only you as their primary driving coach can provide them with the practice they need to not only survive but to build a solid foundation for being a safe and responsible driver!
Coaching New Drivers is about community. A community of like-minded parents and guardians of teen drivers determined to decrease the staggering collision, injury and fatality rates of our young drivers.
This program has several components to help us all achieve this mission:
First, a twelve-step video series walks you (the new driver training coach for your teen) through a systematic process from the first discussion to first drive all the way to the day they go in to take their road test.
Second, a six-part video series for your new driver that addresses the top causes of collisions in new drivers. One video is released each month for six months to maximize the learning and retention of these life-saving strategies.
Third, monthly newsletters are sent to the parents with additional teaching tips, video lessons and driving safety related resources.
Finally, a members-only website provides links to valuable resources, additional coaching tips, videos, licensing information and vehicle safety pointers.
A Program Designed by Crash Investigators
Mike Pehl is a 30-year veteran crash investigator and driving educator. An accident involving a high school friend changed Mike’s life forever and eventually lead him to his life’s passion of helping parents and new drivers avoid tragedies like the one involving his friend and the millions of drivers and families affected by collisions each year.
The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), an organization representing state highway safety offices, cited parental involvement as the most important factor in keeping young drivers safe on the road: “While development and behavior issues coupled with inexperience impact teen crash risk, parents play a critical role in helping teens survive their most dangerous driving years.”
This parent coaching system has been a great way for my daughter and I to learn together about the best way to approach the daunting task of teaching my teen how to drive. I truly appreciated the “Coaching from the Passenger Seat” program and Mike’s direct approach to various situations. I utilized many of the techniques during our practice driving sessions.

DANGER ZONE TRAINING
42% of New Drivers Will be Involved in a Collision in Their First Year*
* National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA)
The Danger Zone Training course has been designed to provide coaches and new drivers with important information on how to avoid being impacted by one of these situations.
Each month, for six months, a new lesson will be made available to view on your new driver training platform and one dash cam lesson will be delivered in your monthly coaching newsletter. This type of “drip-learning” has been shown to greatly increase the long-term retention of learned information, enabling your new driver to keep these strategies top of mind during the most critical time of their driving career.
My Dad and I went through the videos together and then we went driving! It was really fun learning how to drive with him all the way from the first time in a parking lot to the first drive we did on a real road together! We drove so much I was very confident when I took my driver’s test and started on my own!

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for the coach and the teen. It is beneficial to have both of you review the course material prior to heading out on the road. This will ensure both parties are more prepared, less stressed, and will create a better learning environment.
When should we start the course?
Ideally, you should start this program when your new driver first receives their Learner’s or Instruction Permit regardless of whether they are taking formal drivers education yet or not.
If they already have their Learner’s or Instruction Permit, it is recommended you review the lessons, and start at the level they are currently at in their supervised driving experience.
Do I have to pay anything after the registration fee?
No, there is only the one-time fee when you purchase the course.
Once registered, you will receive all of the resources we offer including both online courses, monthly newsletters and access to the Coaching New Drivers resource center.
How long will I have access to the course material?
You will have access to the course for 12 months as of your purchase date. This gives you plenty of time to complete the course with your teen before they hit the road!
My teen is taking driver’s education through a driving school, would I still need this?
This course does NOT replace formal driver education.
This program is a supplement to formal driver education to help parents and their teens build on that driving education. This is achieved through the practice of driving and learning to be aware of dangerous situations.
We also supply tips and tricks every month through our parent newsletter series.
